Professor Yan Peiguang from Shenzhen University visited the 23rd "Gezhi · Innovation" Forum

On November 13, 2020, Yan Peiguang, a Professor of Shenzhen University, gave a report titled "New Saturable Absorber and High Energy Pulse Laser Technology" in conference room 3005 of the lecture hall in Gezhi Building. Prof. Yan was invited by the School of Physical Science and Technology and the Cuiying Honors College to present his report. The report was chaired by Associate Professor Tian Yonghui.

Prof. Yan started from the basic scientific research and application of saturable absorber and high energy pulsed laser technology and laser principle. He pointed out that the saturable absorber is the core component of the ultrafast lasers. Prof. Yan first introduced the basic situation of Shenzhen University, the research direction of his research group, and the basic information of the members of his research group.

Then, the main contents of their research are presented: development, properties, and material selection of saturable absorbers, the advantages and disadvantages of low dimensional materials as saturable absorbers, and the preparation technology of low dimensional materials.

In the preparation of low-dimensional materials, Prof. Yan introduced the preparation of the saturable absorber device by physical vapor deposition and the generation of pulses, drawing the conclusion that physical vapor deposition is conducive to the generation of high energy pulses.

At the end of the report, Prof. Yan told us that the research of laser technology should aim at the national economy and people's livelihood without being curbed by importing countries, and take "industry-university-research-integration" as the mainline, and "usefulness" will become the key driving point. These short sentences also apply to teachers and students in different research fields.

After the report, the faculty and students had heated and extensive exchanges with Prof. Yan.

(After the report, Prof. Yan had a discussion and further exchanges with the faculty and students. He answered the questions about the saturable absorber, which made the teachers and students have a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the saturable absorber.)
